Midsize sedans have been ignored a little in recent years, as they have fallen somewhat out of fashion compared with crossovers and SUVs. But they tend to be a more economical – and sporty – way to provide room for five passengers to go along with easy handling and top performance. We have a comparison of two top vehicles in the class, the 2018 Kia Optima and 2018 Toyota Camry, that show the midsize sedan class is stronger than ever.
The 2018 Optima offers a brand-new S trim level for affordable sport performance with a rear spoiler and sport front bumper plus other aerodynamic features, and a peak horsepower of 245 in its SX trim. The 2018 Camry boasts an upgrade in performance from its 2017 model year, but you're going to pay more for this with a sacrifice in audio, tech and passenger room while the 2018 Optima has more space and tech options to enjoy.

The 2018 Kia Optima is a tech-lover's delight, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard for all trim levels, and an 8-inch touchscreen with voice-command navigation available for top-line trims. On the other hand, the 2018 Camry does not have Apple CarPlay, and its audio system hits its peak with nine speakers, while the 2018 Optima has a 10-speaker Harman/Kardon audio experience available.
The Kia Optima is a great car for families, with a more spacious interior than the 2018 Camry, and with recent honors including KBB.com's "Best Family Sedans" list for 2017. The 2018 Optima is more affordable than the 2018 Camry by about $1,000 base MSRP as well, and its value was noted in the KBB.com “10 Best Sedans Under $25,000” list for 2017 models.
