The upcoming 2024 Kia EV9 is a full-size three-row family SUV electric utility vehicle and is an eagerly awaited addition to the Kia lineup. Similar to the size of the Kia Telluride, the EV9 presents itself as a promising option for families seeking a midsize three-row electric SUV in the Kenosha and Lake Geneva areas.

Set to be available for sale in America by the end of 2023, the 2024 Kia EV9 expands the limited choices for electric SUVs in the market. While there are still details unknown about the EV9, here is an overview of what we can expect.

Kia EV9 Overview: Interior, Features, and Capacity

With the exact measurements still under wraps, the EV9’s passenger space is expected to surpass the Telluride’s, offering a more spacious and comfortable interior while also being longer and wider. The 2024 Kia EV9 will provide several seating configurations, including options for bench seats, swivel seats, and two other seating arrangements. This flexibility allows the new EV to accommodate six or seven occupants, depending on the setup. In addition, Kia plans to offer six different colorways for the cabin, allowing customers to personalize their EV9.

The new Kia EV9 comes equipped with an array of impressive features designed to enhance the overall driving experience. Notable features include:

  • Head-Up Display
  • Digital Rearview Mirror
  • Light-Up Logo On The Steering Wheel
  • High-Quality 14-Speaker, 708-Watt Meridian Audio System
  • Relaxation Mode (for passengers in the 1st and 2nd rows)
  • Power-Operated Leg Rests
  • Heated and Ventilated Seat Cushions

In addition, EV9 will showcase a next-generation infotainment system, the details of which will be revealed when the vehicle is unveiled.

Kia EV9 Preview: Power and Performance

The new Kia EV9 offers two electric drivetrain options for the EV9: A standard 76.1-kWh battery with 215 hp sent to the rear wheels or a longer-range variant with a 99.8-kWh battery that comes with either a single motor or dual motor. The single motor will produce 215 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the dual variant with all-wheel drive (AWD) and a larger battery offers 379 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

The EV9 will also match Telluride’s towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds and features the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) for Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, providing up to 3.68 kW of power for laptops or camping equipment.

Kia EV9 Preview: Charging and Battery Life

The EV9 has an estimated range of between 220 and 290 miles, with the dual-motor AWD configuration providing a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge. The battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in less than 25 minutes thanks to the EV9’s 800-volt electrical architecture and when it’s connected to a Level 3 DC fast charger.

Kia EV9 Preview: Safety Features and Driver-Assistance

The new Kia EV9 comes equipped with a range of standard driver-assistance features, providing an added layer of safety and security. These features include:

  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode

It’s important to note that the hands-free driving mode only comes with a more advanced version of adaptive cruise control and is only for the EV9 GT-Line.

Other features that drivers can look forward to will be:

  • Remote parking assist will allow owners to initiate the parking procedure with the digital key while the vehicle autonomously parks itself.
  • The digital key will also enable users to conveniently open and start the SUV using their smartphone.
  • Additional features will be available through subscription-based services through the new Kia Connect Store.

Driver Assist

In addition to the active safety features, the EV9 plans to expand its driver-assist technology in the future. For example, Kia is actively developing a lidar-based system called Highway Driving Pilot, which will enable Level 3 autonomous driving in specific situations, allowing drivers to hand control of the vehicle over, provided they stay attentive. This feature will be introduced in the future on the EV9 GT-Line, with more details to come from Kia.
